Kinetic Shade
A Shading Element for 1:1 Landscape Arc. and Urban DesignAs part of a public square renovation project, I was asked to design a shading element which will provide as much shade as possible, while staying relatively light and which will be seen as an urban icon for the smal city of Kiryat Bialik.

The shape was extracted out of a sphere. The extracted part follows the sun’s route in most hot months of the year and hot hours of the day. Taking the element of movement as the main principle of design, the sphere was fragmented into 9 pieces. Referencing Alexander Calder’s kinetic sculptures.
